Ideal Chin and Jaw

Jaw angle implants can be placed individually, in pairs, or as a large wraparound implant that includes the chin. 

They are used to increase lateral and/or downward projection of the ramus.

Is double jaw surgery the only solution for long face? by Dr.Kim,Ji-Myung

Everyone thinks balanced face looks good.

Beauty trend is different based on the generation and area. However, it ids proved by study and well-known that balanced and harmonious face is preferred anytime.

Facial bone decides the balance of face. Although a person with pretty eyes and nose, if the she/he has overbite chin / asymmetric jaw / too big jaw, we could not tell she/he is beautiful.

Golden ratio 1: 1: 1 from the hair line to eyebrow, eyebrow to nose tip, and nose tip to chin would be the most harmonious face.

1 : 1 : 0.8 is the golden ratio for baby face. Lastly, it is more preferred since the surgery for baby face is a trend. Short chin makes the lower face look inner than the mid face and it makes look younger. Everyone wants to be younger and especially Asians think a little bit short chin is more feminine face. This kind of people who has the golden ratio look still younger when they are old. 

Long face

Usually, if the face is long, the balance does not look good. Most of the people with long face has long chin. Their face look balanced in their childhood, but when they are growing, jawbone gets overgrow. And in this case, they gets asymmetry due to malocclusion tooth. Jaw is moving with two joint. If the length of the both side of jaw is asymmetry, the function of joint will get worse whenever they open their mouth.

Furthermore, asymmetry gets wore as the time goes by. Double jaw surgery is the solution to correct the problem.

Double jaw surgery is procedure to replace upper jaw and lower jaw to change the structure. Double jaw surgery is the most difficult surgery among all the plastic surgery procedures. It takes long time to do the surgery as well as recovery. However, It change the structure of the jaw therefore, surgery result is dramatic when the surgery is successful.

Shortening face length by Facial contouring surgery

If you have long face due to long jaw without dental bite problem, double jaw surgery will be too much only for it. In this case, "Bodylong jaw surgery" one of the facial contouring procedure could be a solution. 

Long and wide jaw looks masculine and old. Bodylong surgery can reduce the length and width of jaw. Body long surgery is very effective surgery with long cut from mandibular angle to chin area. This surgery is not double jaw surgery therefore, it is simpler and quicker recovery compared to double jaw surgery.

Usually it is possible to reduce 1 cm, although the maximum width to reduce is individually different. 1cm in face is very big amount. Just the nerve is in the jaw, so the cutting must avoid from the nerve and the nerve location is individually different. Even if the nerve is located upper area, cutting too much bone will be regrettable. Lower jaw is important role to chew food and it gets weak by aging. Therefore, the amount to reduce will be very important and it can be determined by doctor's experience.
